Matt Brendzel

Engineering & Wharton '10 (Tenor)
Webmaster

Now going into his fifth and final year with the Shabbatones, Matt's still trying to cope with the ridiculous rumor that he is in fact a ninja by night. This Tenor-turned-Bass-turned-Beatboxer-turned Tenor again is full of surprises; you'd never guess that he spends half of his time crunching numbers at Wharton, half his time crunching numbers in Engingeering, and half of his time in practice. Wait... 1/2 plus 1/2 plus... huh? Matt takes the motto 'Be prepared' very seriously - somehow, he's equipped to handle anything using what he's got in his backpack. Pliers? Got it. Flashlight? Got that too. But no matter what the situation, you can be sure that he always packs a smile and a fun sense of humor.

Racheli Levinson

Drexel '10 (Alto)
Musical Director

Don’t be fooled by this small alto’s size: her voice is bigger than her body gives her credit for (thank you John Mayer). Continuing her arranging prowess into her third year, Racheli always graces the group with her frequent bursts of laughter (what is she laughing at??). If you’re hearing a crazy piano rendition of Snow Patrol, Racheli is never far away. From harmonies to solos, her powerful voice is a real asset to the Shabbatones.

J.J. Katz

College '10 (Bass)

This latin heartthrob will steal your heart away with his dashing looks and (experimentally) sparse facial hair. A fourth-year member of the group, JJ is kind of a big deal around Penn… or so he tells us. His Halo rocketing skills are unmatched, and his uncanny ability to belt soprano parts make him one of the alpha males in this room- girls, take note. So be on the lookout for resident #9 of 234 to rip (and dip) it up tonight- he won’t disappoint.

Lisa Schlesinger

College '10 (Soprano)

Always smiling and cheerful, this 'Tone brings passion, a vision, and... big hair. Lots of it. Following in the long and storied tradition of Shabbatones past, Lisa's hair takes us to heights we never thought possible. Her unending exuberance and positive attitude somehow fit into her petite frame, and her eternal optimism chugs along like the little engine that could. With a slight aversion to anything mango, be sure to skip the tropical fruits aisle when trying to win her heart. This small package of delight is sure to put a smile on your face.

Allie Sperling

College '10 (Soprano)
President

The undisputed Queen of Icebreakers, this Shabbatone sure knows how to get a party started- with fun, but awkward- games. Some may wonder how another girl with straight hair made it into the group- frankly, we don’t know either, but I’ll say it probably had a lot to do with her hotttt voice. A fan of all kinds of bathtubs, Allie will surely bubble you up tonight with her silky-smooth singing, so get ready for your first metaphorical bubble-bath… ever.

Dina Beizer

College '10 (Alto)

When Dina auditioned, we knew we had to take her. After all, the alto section was severely lacking representation from New York *wink wink*. While she may be the brunt of all of our blonde jokes, this low alto breaks the mold and shows that her voice isn’t the only thing that’s deep. This 'Tone was so excited about getting in that when she found out she started doing cartwheels in the street!

Allison Richman

College '11 (Soprano)

With beach-blonde hair, and a kickin' voice, what more could you ask for? Hailing all the way from New Rochelle, NY, Allison is quite the rock-star. She's got the looks (ow ow!), the voice (makes the boys go loco), and the personality to boot (Uggs, I think). Keep an out eye for this rockin' newbie soprano when she struts her stuff.

Emma Ellman-Golan

College '11 (Soprano)

President Obama, please just let her babysit for your kids so she stops talking about you. Or will she start talking about how wonderful they are too? Ever helpful, Emma has that (Yes We) Can Do attitude, piercing those soprano notes with resolve, and showing us the way forward (to Obamamania). And Emma, seriously, where did you get that sexy Israeli accent? Even after the voice and the picture is over, this newbie still serenades us with her dulcet tones. Just try not to stare

Justin Sackett

College '11 (Tenor)

Boy, we had NO idea what we were getting into when we brought this Ragin' Cajun into the group. What he lacks in stature he more than makes up for with his southern sweetness, and if you're not careful, he'll make you fall for him too. Though he is one of the new additions to the group this semester, Justin already has us rolling on the floor with his eastern dance moves and for some reason, we're all obsessed with his hair. Hope ya'll get a kick out of this rockin' tenor!

Liza Elkin

College '11 (Mezzo Soprano)

As our second member from Newton, MA, Liza brings an amazing and unusual set of skills to the group. Constantly being looked to as a source of entertainment with her spontaneous dance numbers and impromptu solos, this true mezzo-soprano never ceases to keep the group smiling (at her as her face reddens). Expect this disarmingly coy newbie to bring it, rip it and tear it up!

Jon Goldstein

Temple University (Tenor)

The Shabbatones decided early in the semester to try to scout talent from other Philadelphia-area schools, and boy, did we make the right decision. As our only Temple student and newest member, Jon has brought a lot to the group with his Sinatra-esque crooning and random nuggets of musical information and advice. A student of musical theater, Jon brings more power to the group with his bari/tenor vocals. And after hearing some of his Garage Band arrangements, we’re expecting big things from this guy.
